Charles Edward “Ed” Strandquest, 93 of Geistown, died March 27, 2024 in his home. He was born May 1,1930 in Hooversville and was the son of Ernest T. and Alice (Brown) Strandquest. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, the former Nancy Louise Simmons in 2010. Survived by his children: son Bud and daughter in law Ana; son David and Angie; daughter Victoria Santa and son in law Dave; daughter Michele Covert and son in law Joel; beloved grandchildren Erin (John), Emily (Brendan), Dane, Claire, Emily Louise, Emma and Isaac; and his dear companion and cat, Howard. He was a veteran of the US Navy and a retired employee of Bethlehem Steel. Ed brought a lot of laughter and joy to his family and friends. His talent in wood working graces every one of his children’s homes. He was loved not only by his children, but developed friendships with their friends and neighbors. Ed modeled love by caring for his ailing wife at home for 14 years and this had a profound impact not only on his children and family but many others who heard of his selfless love. Ed will be greatly missed by more people than he would have ever realized.
Friends will be received Friday, April 5, 2024 at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, 921 Menoher Blvd. where services will be held Saturday April 6th at 1:00 PM with his son-in-law Joel officiating. Interment Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Aseracare Hospice, made out to “Amedisys Foundation”, 100 CTC Drive, Suite 100, Johnstown, PA 15904. Their love and support allowed Ed’s family to care for him in his home with dignity and comfort.
